Whether you’re a service member or a spouse juggling household goods, pets, kids or your second vehicle in preparation for a cross country trip to the new duty station, getting to your pcs order can be a daunting prospect. While the government will pay to transport ONE automobile from an overseas duty station (OCONUS), it generally does not pay to transport a Service Member's car when the move is within the country (CONUS). So if you or a family member is not in a position to drive your vehicle to your new base, an experienced military auto transport company is often the best option.
Military members who make Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves from one duty station to another do have some entitlements, and there is a limited authority for POV (Privately Owned Vehicle) car transport within the CONUS when the service member is medically unable to drive, has a homeport change, or there is not enough time to drive. The government also pays for car transport for a Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employee if you (a) Have been transferred in the government’s interest, (b) Are a new appointee, or (c) are a student trainee assigned to your first PDS. Further, you are entitled to POV transportation upon retirement or separation, to your authorized Home of Selection under the JTR, Paragraph (Para) 5068-A.1, or Home of Record (HOR)/Place from Which Called (or Ordered) to Active Duty under JTR Paragraph 5066. The time limit for shipping a POV is 1 year from the date of retirement or 180 days from the date of separation with pay.
The legal authority for POV shipment is 10 USC 2634(h), 10 USC 2634, and 37 USC 406(h) -- but even if you’re paying out of pocket for POV auto transport, you’ll find great value in our shipping quotes.

2. How much does it cost to ship vehicles for military members?
Military car shipping costs ~$1.40 per mile for 1-500 miles. So, a 350 mile trip would cost $490. The longer the distance, the lower the price: moving it ~1000 miles drops the rate to $1 a mile, or $1000. Coast-to-coast military car transport can be as little as $.60 cents per mile. Military auto shipping quotes vary based on vehicle size, speed of delivery, availability in rural location, and seasonal demand.

3. How long does it take to ship a car when transferred?
POV shipping for service members takes between 1-6 calendar days from the date your vehicle is picked up to when it’s dropped off. A driver usually covers about 500 miles per day. The first available pickup date is typically 2-7 business days after an order is booked, and express car transport is usually available within 24-72 hours depending on your location. 6. How to move a car for a member of the military during a PCS: can you pack items in the vehicle or the trunk?
The short answer is no. The FMCSA which inspects car transporters and ensures public safely permits only vehicle-related items to be included, such as child car seats, car covers, and parts or tools related directly to the vehicle itself. Regulations prohibit including luggage, personal items, household items or anything else that’s not related to the car, in order to avoid excess weight and because no car carrier in the US is licensed to carry household goods, or obtain insurance on those items for your protection. So it’s best to include household goods with the shipment of your other personal belongings during your PCS move.
